VGS isn’t interested in changing. This much is obvious. But apparently many of their fans don’t want them to either. Whether you’re listening to their Dr. Strange debut, Who Is, This Is?, or their newest LP Southern California Street Music, you’ll find little difference. I’ll always feel nostalgic recalling middle school memories of my friend sneaking headphones into class so we could listen to Firme. Hearing horns implemented so dangerously gave scrawny band kids such hope! But my question is this: as an audience grows up, shouldn’t a band do the same? Loyal fans who haven’t grown tired of VGS’s fast and heavy Latino ska might enjoy picking this one up, however, not everyone else will. – Kevin Wilder
