Underminded
Eleven Eleven
2007 » Uprising Records
Eleven: Eleven opens up with a chanting that is strongly likened to AFI’s, as the words “Save our lives. Raise your voice. Here we are. March along,” create a pulsating statement to begin with. My hope in the album rose entirely too fast, though, as every song that followed fell into an endless thrashing of the same monotonous redundancy. Since change is what Underminded is aiming for, it would have only made sense to avoid such fatiguing stagnancy in their sound. The one significant transformation that occurs in the music is two minutes and a quarter of the way through track 6, “In Complacent Glass Cannons.” At that point, there is a break in the relentless stream of screaming as a choir of “ahs” follows, and then the stream resumes.
Some of Underminded’s lyrics, “Dear George, please, will you bury me? Bury me,” harp on the same issues Americans feel helpless over. While I must express my approval for the fact that they wish to bring political awareness to youth, what good is it if the musical content is so forgettable? – Crystal Farina
