Knowing how to work with dissonance is a talent that must be honed over time. Many artists are unclassifiable because they somehow manage to incorporate a wonderful clash of several genres into their music.  Time of Orchids does not fit under this description.   They are simply one of those bands that are trying too hard to be different.  They accomplish this by harmonizing incorrectly, and it is an experience that could induce damage to the cochlea.   There is nothing avant-garde about this music.  It is not innovative.  It is not progressive rock.  Hell, it isn’t even for the masses.    Perhaps I am not giving Time of Orchids enough credit, for they have created a new genre: Cautionary Listening.  When listening to Time of Orchids, be sure to swallow a magnesium pill to prepare you for both the migraine and hearing loss that will rapidly ensue from the multitude of superimposed vocals, drums, mutilated synthesizers, and broken guitars. – Crystal Farina
