Sophe Lux
Waking in the Mystics
2007 » Zarathusthra
Sophe Lux is an outfit for a madwoman and her cohort of musicians. The album is a 13-track long absurd adventure with titles like “Marie Antoinette Robot 2073 (A Rock Opera)” and “God Doesn’t Take American Express”. Perhaps I’m not enlightened, but I don’t get it. Gwynneth Haynes’ lyrics are trite, replete with allusions to angels, dragons, sacred cows and Renee Descartes… clearly this woman is confused. Though the music and vocals can be pleasant and even beautiful at times, they just as easily become exhausting. The album is so manic it could make you puke your lunch in rainbow colors. – Julie Martin
