Reel Big Fish
Monkeys for Nothing and the Chimps for Free
Rating- 0, the big stinkin' goose-egg.
I hate this record.
Please let me tell you why.
I was around when the 3rd wave Ska hit. I was at Moon Ska tour dates. However I also saw countless bands that were fucking awful that the major labels shoved down our throats on MTV while so many brilliant Ska outfits wasted away. Bands like Reel Big Fish that were from the O.C. California and copied Less Than Jake, got signed to big record deals to help the old moneybags in the record industry capitalize on that latest trend. Reel Big Fish apparently "got away" from their major label recently to sign to Jason Spiewak of the "lets sell out and make propaganda music for the US government war effort and Army recruitment films" band called 3 Doors Down. Jason's new new label Rock Ridge Records has become a home for other has been acts no one wants to acknowledge that they owned records of (like Kittie). Monkeys for Nothing... is an insipid cubic zirconia gem of moronic kindergarten pseudo Ska music. It is completely awful with absolutely no redeeming qualities that I can even think of and I thought long and hard to try to find one, but came to the conclution that there are none and that listening to this was a good 20 minutes of my life I will never get back. Don't buy it and perhaps they will not release another record ever again.
Now if only the so called "punk blogs" and mags had enough balls to say that we could get back to good Ska and Punk music again.
