Menomena are experts at layering instruments, patching together their songs one part at a time. On their 2003 album I am the Fun Blame Monster, this technique sometimes yielded mixed results. On their third album Friend and Foe, Menomena have it down pat. Every song on this record is executed with interesting sonic detail, themes coming and going on a variety of instruments, only helped by the fact that Menomena happen to be able to write a good song. This is an album that took a lot of precision, planning, and care to record. Highly recommended.
