Jet Lag Gemini
Fire the Cannons
2007 » Doghouse Records
I would think that a band who boasts of having three immigrant members (two Romanian, one Russian) would be able to produce an album that breaks the norms of formulaic, kitschy pop-rock, but in the case of Jet Lag Gemini I would be wrong. Like a similar band that comes from Doghouse Records (All American Rejects), Jet Lag Gemini seems to depend on their catchy melodies in order to gain the attention of their target audience. Many times, I would be listening indifferently to a track, predisposing it to dislike, when all of a sudden that damn hook of a chorus would come and reel me in making me doubt my first judgment. Still, it’s nothing ground breaking, nothing that pontificates on any sort of musical evolution. Fire the Cannons is not particularly difficult to listen to, and the lead guitarist, Misha Sofonov, delivers some mighty nice rifts on the guitar, but so what? Maybe the masses will eat it up, but frankly I’m over it. – Cristina Martin
