Galactic, historically, have always been on the fence between New Orleans-style jazz and funky R & B.  After losing their singer, however, they turned to recruiting as many MC’s as they could to guest on their newest album, From the Corner to the Block.  And for as much as a fan as I’ve been of their past work, I have to say that I’m a little unsure whether this album is worth a shit.  Sure, these guys can toss out a groove without effort, but when the musicians are more or less constrained by the fact that they have to stick to a verse structure so that an MC can throw down, Galactic comes across as stilted.  It’s not a bad record, but it could’ve been so much better. - Tom Whelan
