Explosions in the Sky are proving to be America’s answer to Mogwai. On their newest record, they run through yet another set of sweeping, melancholy, and histrionic instrumental songs. Granted, if the combination of loud drumming and judicious use of reverbed guitars without any vocals sounds like something you’d be bored with, then you shouldn’t bother, because that combination pretty much sums it up. Oh yeah, and this time Explosions in the Sky use more keyboards than they did before. While that might detract from their tried and true formula of only using guitars, the result is no less engrossing. If you’re a fan of the musical drama and theatrics usually found in movie soundtracks, you’ll eat this shit up.
