Dragons of Zynth have a sound so crude and unrelenting that it’s hard to classify their music. An unholy conglomeration of acid rock, punk, reggae and what is loosely known as world music—they are energetic anarchy. Throughout Coronation Thieves there is a slight discord between the echo-washed vocals and the chaotic beauty of their bombastic rhythm. The song “Breaker” is the perfect dive into a grinding lullaby from the spacey, political opener, “War Lover.” At times, they sound like their musical brethren TV on the Radio—if they had been a 90’s grunge-punk band. Having recently seen them live, it’s amazing how well their dissonant recorded sound translates into an incredible performance. Much like Jimi Hendrix in the days of yore, these guys are raw like exposed nerve endings, and songs like “Who Rize Above” and “Take It To Ride” really encapsulate the wonderfully acidic elements of their music. Dragons of Zynth is a band to keep your eye on. With a bit of refinement, these guys will rock your face off. – Christian Crider
