A member of the Portland, Oregon music scene, Chris Robley pulls out all of the stops on this recording of experimental folk, and noir orchestral arrangements. Layers of well placed sweeping horns and strings accompany these lush acoustic songs with lyrics wreathing about the dark side of human relationships. Instead of vocals being tortured in the first person, we hear Chris Robley spinning tales as an observer, one that is merely a step away from the disasters that he recalls and obsesses over. This is without a doubt one of the strongest independent releases that has come into my hands this year, and definitely worth a listen.
