Chip Christy
Empires Fall
2008
I spent the first 6 minutes of this disc trying to figure out if it was a clever joke or not. Honestly I still am not too sure. Either way it's a complete failure. Chip Christy's opening track of this record has very pretty Yanni style piano and white adolescent gently rapped vocals, and very lovely backing cross harmonies. There is a sweet breakdown in it where he and a friend straight up rap some nice elaborations on empires falling all around them, with and occasional hype man shouting "yeeeeeah", while going back to adult contemporary elevator music. This is one of the most mixed up demoes I have ever reviewed. Chip has a great John Tesh quality to his voice, but if you are going to play easy listening music, please do not put rap breakdowns in the middle of it.
