Ahleuchatistas
Even in the Midst
2007 » Cuneiform Records
Ahleuchatistas fourth album, Even in the Midst… like all their others, sticks to the rudimentary essentials of rock music: guitar, bass and drums. Every musician is entitled to at least one instrumental track, but after four albums of instrumentals, how much variation is there? Really? Some instrumental bands can make it, but let’s face it, unless you spice up the basics, I’m not going to buy your album and I’m not going to come to your shows. The songs could be any title and the musical vision could be that of liberals, rebels or conservatives and I wouldn’t know the difference without any lyrics. Maybe they’re bad singers or maybe they just want to jam, but Even in the Midst… is background music at its best. I will say they’ve got energy, skill and ambitious composition. They might be able to carve out a niche for themselves in the music industry, it just won’t be in my iTunes library. – Stephanie Bolling
