Weekend Bitch, 8/8-8/10
At last, a weekend with not just one leather and riding crop event, but two!!!! Plus, Kelly's Pub returns to the fold, former members of Television play G'ville, and the REAX Head Cheese puts his talents on display. Weekend Bitch is purring right now.
Friday, August 8:
Convergence 14 @ The Hyatt Regency, Tampa and other events in Ybor. Come see "America's premiere goth gathering!" Check out Goths on Ice at the Tampa Ice Sports Forum. Learn about Goth Cruise! Attend "The Wake" at Tampa Brewing Company. All creatures of the night are encouraged.
The Sufimonkey Trio (feat. members of TELEVISION!) @ The Atlantic, Gainesville, 8 pm, $8/$9. Amazing opportunity to see post-punk originators. (See video below.)
Stephen Foxbury @ The Social, Orlando, 8 pm, $15. Greg Laswell-esque vocals with mellow accoustic accompaniement. Proceeds will benefit the Finn Gunderson Diamond-Blackfan Anemia Foundation to fund the treatment-- and, hopefully the cure-- of this rare bone marrow failure disorder that makes it impossible for Finn to produce his own red blood cells. So, go see a show and save a life you insufferable bastards.
Geri X, Have Gun Will Travel, Will Quinlan @ Kelly's Pub, Tampa, 9 pm, $4.
Saturday, August 9:
Tail Gunner Joe and the Earls of Slander (poster above) @ New World, Tampa, 9 pm, $6, 21+. Gasoline guzzling southern rockabilly (think Rancid covering Johnny Cash) dominates the tiny northwest corner of Ybor. One might need to cross the street to Fuma Bella for the appropriate whiskey mash shot. W/ Mike Dunn and the Kings of New England.
Secret Eden Presents the Cabaret De Kinque 2008 @ Crowbar, Tampa, 9 p.m., $10/$15, 18+. Fetish freaks unite to see themed performances by Angela Ryan, Vivian Ireene Pierce (FetishCon Fan's Choice Guest of Honor), Evelyn Rose, Orias Bastet, Ana Aesthetic, Jezebel Tempting and Vhex.
Sunday, August 10:
KINDER, GENTLER SUNDAYS @ Crowbar, 5pm, $3. W/ Rebekah Pulley, Experimental Pilot, Dave Korman of Memphis Train Union, Russ Van Cleave of The Tim Version, and REAX's own Scott Harrell of Nessie. Shake off your weekend hangover with accoustic sets from Tampa's all star local acts.
