Weekend Bitch, 10/3-10/5

Posted Friday, October 3rd 2008 by Michael Rabinowitz

If you are into pussy pop rock or the carnage of GWAR, this edition of Weekend Bitch has it all.  Which begs the question: what is scarier, attending a Maroone 5 show or getting eaten by a GWAR monster?

Friday, October 3

Against Me!, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Jannus Landing, St. Pete, 7 pm, $17.  W/ Future of the Left.  Florida's best punk act (via G'ville) and one of the genre's best lyricist (Ted Leo) combine for a great show at Jannus ('Bout fucking time too.  Jannus has been sucking wind lately.)

Counting Crows w/ Maroon 5 @ Ford Ampitheater, Tampa, 7 pm.  I wish I could find a proper insult for these guys except Adam Duritz laid more pipe in the 90's (Jennifer Anniston!), while Adam Levine seems to prefer another form of the pipe (allegedly).

Building the State @  New World Brewery, Ybor City,  9 pm, $7.  W/ Guiltmaker, Her Enemy.  Is Florida becoming the instrumental rock capital of the world?  Building the State is just another ethereal, space rock act worthy of your attention.  Who knew this state could be so contemplative?

Saturday, October 4

GWAR! @ Jannus Landing, St. Pete, 8 pm, $18.  W/ Toxic Holocaust.  Blood, semen, vomit will be hurled at the audience.  Is this a McCain/Palin rally?  No!  Its GWAR the band loved by Republicans across this great nation.  (see video below)

The Walkmen @ Common Grounds, G'ville, 9 pm, $12, all ages.  W/ The Littles Ones, Building The State.  The Dylan comparisons will be prevelant of Walkment lead singer Walter Martin, but this also-ran band to The Strokes is revealing their staying power and post rock chops latest release, You & Me

Sunday, October 5

Folkies for Phyllis @ Skipper's Smokehouse, 2- 6pm, $10 min donation.  A Mini-Folkfest Fundraiser for Phyllis Busansky, former County Commissioner and now the Democratic candidate running for Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections. Although this is a political fundraiser, the public is invited to come enjoy the fine music regardless of one's political persuasion. Performers include MIKE JURGENSEN; JOHN HANCOCK & THE DECLARATION; BUNKO SQUAD; ERNIE WILLIAMS; DALE WEBBER & LINDA FACKELDEY; PEMELO JO HATLEY & STEELE OLMSTEAD.

By the way, the deadline to register to vote is approaching, so get of your asses and head here to make your voice count.
