Nas Relents, Drops "N*GGER" For Album Title
Did Nas really think that Def Jam was going to release an album titled N*gger? Doesn't he know that the majority of people who purchase Def Jam albums are white? Although, I do think it's ironic that Nas can use the N-word as many times as he wants in a song, even use the N-word as a title of a song, but cannot use the N-word to title his album.
From Billboard:
Nas’ controversially named new album, “N*gger,” has been changed to an untitled project and will be released July 1 via Def Jam.
“It’s important to me that this album gets to the fans,” the rapper says. “It’s been a long time coming. I want my fans to know that creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages. It’s that important. The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it.”
Riiiight. When someone asks me what I am listening to, the first thing I'm going to say is "Why, N*gger, of course!"

And The Big Deal Is ... ?
I don't understand why this is a big no-no either, when so many hip-hop song titles and lyrics use the word. It's kind of interesting that the album title is the cut-off, the place where it becomes potentially scandalous. Has any major label released an album with one profane word as its title - ever? The closest I can think of off the top of my head was Fear's indie Fuck You, and I remember it was packaged in a black plastic bag at the record store.
