Members:
Rich Ouimette, guitars/ lead vocals
Logan Terkelsen, drums/ percussion
Jesse "Huey" Huston, guitars/ lead vocals
Kris Robinson, bass/ backup vocals

Hometown:
Jacksonville/Lake Worth, by way of Wisconsin
"We moved down here for a chance at making some movement towards a career as a band," says Terkelsen.

Years together: 5
"Rich was playing in a cover band. He did really well with it, but he wanted to write his own music. He hooked up with another drummer, Andy, and they decided to start writing some original music. Andy had to go off to college, so they looked for a drummer, and they found me - I knew Andy from way back because my dad dated his mom for years."

How Terkelsen describes their sound:
"It's kind of complicated, because we all really listen to such a large variety. I know that sounds so cliché. Eveythig from the Beatles and the Stones to Beaite Boys and Bilnd Melon and Bob Marley and Iron Maiden. Everything you could possibly think of comes in at some point ... but generally speaking, the bands that show up in our sound are like Queens of the Stone Age, Supersuckers. I'd say we're an experimental hard rock band.

"When we sit down and write a song, our general goal is to write a song that doesn't sound like a song we already have. We're constantly trying to think outside the box."

How REAX describes their sound:

Like a stripped-to-the-block QOTSA. Thick, simple and repetitive yet still catchy, with the occasional more metallic groove thrown in.

On the Jacksonville scene:
"It's sort of at a weird place right now. It's not really Jzcksonvile. Jax Beach and Atlantic Beach are where the bands that are doing well play. The Freebird is over there, and there are a lot of beach-dwelling people. So there's all kinds of really cool people there, and we love the atmosphere. It's a whole different ball game. The people that do come out to shows, that want to see original music that they haven't heard before, they get into it and they love it and it makes for a really diehard fanbase. Once they catch onto you, they stick with you.

What they do together besides playing music:

"We're a drug-free band, believe it or not. It's pretty exciting that we can just hang out and drink together. We have lots of cookouts. We treat our band and the people surrounding our band as a big family, and we like to do as much as we can to get the family together as often as possible. Movie nights, stuff like that."

So is "Jerrado" a real person?
"No. Have you ever seen the movie Clay Pigeons? That movie is basically what that song's about – a real good lookin' serial killer."

Rojo Diablo is currently working on the follow-up to its first album,
Devil Red. The band opens for Burning Brides at Landshark Cafe in Jacksonville Beach this Saturday, July 5.
