Typewriters
from volume 01 issue 02 // Chris Kelly
What can I say, Phil Holt and the crew at Red Letter1 Tattoo Studio put on a great art show. Maybe it was the ambiance in their beautiful work space, which is located in a renovated cigar factory on 8th Ave. Maybe it was the flowing PBR. Or maybe it was the artwork… okay, it was definitely the artwork.
“Typewriters” brings together some of the most influential artists from tattooing and contemporary fine arts in an event showcasing the use of text and lettering in artwork and multi-media. Displayed artists included Tim Bierdron, Grime, Phil Holt, Troy Denning, Jason Kundell, Tes One, Marcus Pacheco, Adrian Lee, Saber, and many more.
As I walked around the exhibit, I was constantly amazed by the originality that these artists displayed in their work. From Adrian Lee’s multi-panel graphic style, to Saber’s wild graffiti piece sculpted in wood, to Shawn Barber’s fine art look at tattooing, there was an offering for everyone’s personal style.
Red Letter1 will be hosting more art shows in the future, and if I were you I would go—you’ll be cooler for it. And of course, if you want a great tattoo, you can check them out at 1510 E. 8th Ave, Ybor City 813.241.2435, or visit their web site at www.redletter1.com.
