Crowbar, Ybor City
T’was the night before Independence Day, and all through Ybor City…
Called forth by the scent of grilled meats and other tasty treats, the hungry masses followed an olfactory beacon and filled Crowbar for some summer shenanigans. The standing room only frankfurter fest featured performances from local artists from across the state of Florida, including Jacksonville’s Julius Airwave, Orlando’s History, and Tampa’s Greymarket & Poetry ‘N Lotion. Daniel Martinez & Ryan Michael Hastings of Candy Bars and Shawn Kyle of Beauvilles broke from their standard bill of fare and delivered acoustic and alternative versions of morsels usually performed with their full bands.
To top it all off (with mustard, relish, onions, or your personal choice of garnishes), there was a Hot Dog eating contest. Yes, there was a little puke (ask Flipp from Crowbar about his interesting clean-up adventures) and champion sausage swallower Josh Greenberg was awarded a trophy for the “Biggest Wiener of 2007”, consuming 13 and a half dogs & buns in 12 minutes. Keeping with the Hot Dog theme of the eve, Noah Deledda filled a fresh canvas with a wien-derful painted work, and the limited edition REAX / AES Hot Dog shirts were fully consumed by the satisfied revelers.
