On Saturday March 8, 2008, Czar Vodka Bar in Ybor City will once again play host to The Heart Show, the second annual benefit in memory of Tribeca Salon hairstylist James Anthony Ray Sadler, who passed away abruptly in the summer of 2006 at the age of 37. Formed from the combination of the words "hair" and "art," The Heart Show is primarily a fundraiser for the James Anthony Ray Sadler Scholarship (JARSS), which offers assistance to Hillsborough County high school seniors looking to attend cosmetology school.
To accomplish their financial goal each year, The Heart Show organizers Brandon Wagner and his Tribeca Salon staff truly honor the creative spirit of their beloved friend and colleague by filling the event with visual art, performance, music, fashion and hair magic, in addition to contests and random acts of "commando hair" performed live on site. The 2007 installment of The Heart Show raised over 7,000 for the scholarship fund, and showcased a number of DJs, visual artists, and hair/fashion models. This year's event looks to break the previous year's records not only financially, but with programming as well. The Tampa Bay Derby Darlins, the Tampa Bay Storm dancers, and celebrity judges Janet Mills of America's Next Top Model Cycle 9, Brian Schaeffer of Skatepark of Tampa, and Rachael Begue are just a few of the many delights The Heart Show plans to unveil. Athens, GA-based – and Tampa favorite – Velveteen Pink will perform, along with D-Visitors and Bronze4. Marina Williams, Aleka Phoenix, Sparks - Fire and Fashion and Azucar will all show their latest clothing designs. Visual art will be on display from Matthew Squires, Jonathan Vaughan and Brandon Dunlap, all curated by Vanessa Fernandez with live painting by Jay Giroux.
New this year will be a dance show in the Imperial Theatre, as well as a female impersonation revue. Additionally, attendees may participate in a silent auction and raffle. Support this fantastic endeavor, and have an amazing time in the process.
Doors open at 8:00PM, with pre-sale tickets available at Tribeca Salon for 12; door is 15. Contact Brandon Wagner for more info at (813) 250-0208.
