The spectacle surrounding America’s fascination with Halloween is something the rest of the world could never understand. Unfortunately this year’s celebration of the macabre fell on a Tuesday, ensuring a tame experience at Transitions at the Skate Park of Tampa. Nonetheless, I put my game-face on and headed out into the darkness to report on the goings on at what is quickly becoming one of my favorite local venues. Aestheticized Presents put together quite an eclectic mix of bands for the evening, which was kicked off by Hot Sauce, a ska band with no horns. I know, I was a bit confused at first, but they rocked the shit, brought most of the crowd, and really got things going. After they finished up, I was excited to catch a powerfully stirring set from one of my new favorite local acts, GreyMarket, although I was a bit distracted by Trainspotting which was playing on the back wall throughout the evening. The entire Reality Band was unable to attend, so the remaining crowd was treated to free style Reggae dub performance by their lead singer. The Villanz finished the night off in style, with their high energy hip-hop antics. Four completely different acts made sure my weeknight version of Halloween was entertaining diverse to say the least. I continue to be pleasantly surprised by the sound quality at Transitions, and as Matt Welch aptly put it, “We must be doing something right.†That just about sums it up.
