For those who enjoy electrifying blues and southern rock, this show is sure to impress. Since they were kids, brother Cody and Luther Dickinson have carefully been exposed to Mississippi country-blues through their father Jim, a reputable Memphis producer. With Chris Chew filling out the bass, NMA have taken the R.L. Burnside style and freaked out on it. These blues drone with psychedelic frenzy often leaving you in a boogie trance (check the track, Book of Sorrow). This modern approach to the genre combined with their rich background naturally led the brothers (Dad included) to team up with balls-out blues-man Jon Spencer to remix some of the tracks off 1998's Acme. It was a perfect storm that eventually led to collaboration and a regional Japanese release. The aptly named Spencer-Dickinson finally gave us stateside folk a taste of that explosion this past August with the release of The Man Who Lives For Love. Be warned if your blues experience lies more on the traditional side because this is quite a departure from B.B. and S.R.V. It's evolution and the result of what happens after soaking up decades of punk, psych and noise-rock while fusing that into a deep rooted passion for the blues. There's no easy way to describe it. This music is insane. Witness the furry on November 18th at the State Theater.
