New Roman Times

from volume 01 issue 05 //

REAX:  How would you describe your sound to someone who has never seen you play before?
Daniel Owens:  We draw from influences we had when we were growing up, late 80’s early 90’s.  You know, your formative years. There is definitely a lot of The Smiths, The Cure, Joy Division, and Nirvana in our music.  It definitely has a dark, almost quasi-gothic sound, like early 80’s bands using synths and programmed drums.  They were still basically a rock band, but they were using fusion instruments.  They would effect those with delays to give it that sound.  Growing up and listening to punk music adds an edge to those influences, it’s amped it up a little bit.

REAX:
What’s going on with The New Roman Times?
Daniel Owens:  We recorded stuff about six months ago, which we are going to add on to and record more in November in Athens, GA with Andy Baker.  Hopefully by spring there is going to be another full-length out with ten to twelve songs.  We had a good bit of interest form the demo and EP’s worth of songs that we did, but the timing really was not precise for us.  We own a bar in Orlando called Red Light, Red Light so that’s taken up our time as far as traveling and getting more exposure.  Hopefully we’ll be able to strike something up as soon as the new material is done.
