Ryan's Beard Not The Only Attraction
Sometimes when you reanimate something from the past, it smells every bit of the stinky old corpse that it is. On the rare occasion that a reanimation produces a bite sized morsel of the magic that was; we remind ourselves why we spent so much time loving that zombie. I didn’t expect this, but my heart literally swelled in size thrice over (at least momentarily, thankfully allowing me to avoid any thoracotomical procedure) as songs from My Hotel Year show‘s past filled the pleasantly packed auditorium of Club Firestone.
The show was literally set up to resemble an Orlando area showcase of some five years past. The surroundings were definitely updated, as shows of the local variety rarely took place in the plush surroundings of the Firestone at that time. Sound the Alarm, Resident Weirdo, Feeble Wiener (wow! I still can’t put my head around the ’Why?’ of that name) and Unsung Zeroes rounded out the showcase to give credence to the evening’s authenticity. The experience was complete with a merch table populated by some various show going pranksters, circa early turn of the century.
Although we will likely never see this happen again, and the music community at large has perhaps moved on a little, these good times are not soon forgotten. Wake up, morning sun, it’s six a.m. . . .
