Rating: Hit The Floor

Analogous to hookers working the streets of Nebraska Ave., Malison has been working the bars around Tampa Bay for the past three years. For the very first time in their local music career, the band appeared at Transitions Art Gallery and took the audience by storm.

It was critical for the guys in the experimental/progressive/screamo band to hit it hard at this show; not only for their adherent fans, but also for an intriguing-yet-deadpan e-mail request from an employee at a reputable Chicago-based record label. The label’s request called for better quality video footage and nothing more. Malison guitarist, John Cornwell, articulated the matter plainly, “It’s not everyday that a well-known label takes interest in our band, so it was crucial to make sure we had enough people in the audience taking videos.”

Malison delivered a five-song set sticking to newer material. They introduced the show with “Old Man Tree,” then progressed to “A Small Part of Chancely Showers,” a song about a man with a dissociative personality and an obsession with a girl named Chancely.

The curtain fell after what has proven to be Malison’s paramount favorite, “Thugs and Pirates.” During the last seconds of the song, an aggregation of fans jumped onto the stage to serenade the crowd by chanting the final lines of the song into the microphone.

Malison plans on completing their first record by years end. In the meantime, they carry hopes for bringing their sound to a larger audience and faith that victory shall be theirs.

Boys of Malsion

Being a fan and friend that has seen quite a few Malison shows, I would have to say I am proud to see them where they are. With such talent and stage presence these boys know how to write, play, sing and rock the hell out of an audience. If you haven't had the chance to catch these future headliners on stage, make a point to do so, you won't regret a single second.
