from volume 02 issue 05 // Marshall Dickson
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Words and Photos: Marshall Dickson
Appeared:
August 22, 1987
Jannus Landing, St. Petersburg
The elegant procession known collectively as Siouxsie and the Banshees finally graced Florida with a performance in 1987, just over ten years from the inception of the group in London. With an array of costume changes, Siouxsie and her band of merry makers gilded the air that hot August night with aural ornaments of gold, conjuring an atmosphere reminiscent of an evening at Ray Bradbury’s Dark Carnival from Something Wicked This Way Comes; filled with the wonder of a sideshow. In support of their breakthrough album, Peepshow, and it’s single, “Peek-A-Boo”, an enraptured St. Petersburg audience basked in the glory of a truly landmark band. They would not enchant the sunshine state again for four more years, when they appeared as a main stage artist on the first Lollapalooza tour.
