There is a special little spot in my heart for talking robots. Specifically, the left ventricle is reserved for the greater talking robot population; the right aorta is generally reserved for singing bunny rabbits and, of course, dancing frogs.
Having no prior knowledge of what Captured By Robots was (other than the snappy name), I assumed I was in for some experimental music. This assessment stands now as a gross understatement to what happened in a two show / two night combo at the Crowbar.
Lead by wacky crooner Jbot (clearly a very smart human masquerading as a robot), Captured By Robots is a group of cranky robots playing various instruments, running the gamut from guitar, (the robot was actually playing a bass / guitar combo with its fingers) to percussion, to keyboards. The milieu of their performance consisted of covering classic dance numbers of the eighties and nineties, with some rather thrash metal’ish songs that I assumed were original. Either way, a great time was had by the whiskey soaked crowd and the robots slang insults with reckless abandon at the otherwise fleshy concert goers.
This show is a must for the robot enthusiast, or just the casual robot observer.
