Archer's New Rival
from volume 01 issue 01 // Heather Alewine
Archer’s New Rival - See something, Say something (by Heather Alewine)
For their first full length album, Archer’s New Rival promises to deliver something similar to their 5 song EP “Broken Arrows and Gunshot Wounds,” but with a heavier, fiercer sound. “We’re trying to get out of the poppy stuff… it’s not as much fun to play or hear,” says Troy (matt) Jones, the lead singer of the Orlando-based screamo punk band. After taking 1st place in a battle of the bands contest in Tampa last year and earning a spot in the Taste of Chaos earlier this year, they are currently hard at work in the recording studio. Archer’s New Rival hopes that audiences walk away from their shows saying, “Holy shit, those guys were crazy!”
“We’d like them to leave with the satisfaction that they got their money’s worth and hope to see us again,” says Jones. “That’s the ultimate compliment.”
The band recently changed personnel after losing a member. Added to the lineup is Alan Harmon, who Jones describes as “a good friend, not just a band mate.” Jones sees a definite improvement in the entire group’s chemistry since welcoming Harmon to the band. “We all get along a lot better now, and have a lot more fun at practice and at shows.” Archers New Rival is an unsigned talent at this time, and hopes their new album will garner attention outside of the Tampa Bay area. Their full length CD, still in progress, will feature at least 8 new songs and 2 re-recorded tracks. The band is slated to headline the Florida Music Festival at Blue Room in Orlando on May 18. Be sure to check them out!
